The Rod Streater Foundation Takes Off With “Mission to Mars”
Roots International Academy Students Travel to Chabot Space and Science Center
Oakland, CA, June 6, 2014
Rod Streater officially launched his foundation with an exciting “Mission to Mars” at the Chabot Space and Science Center. Representatives from Silicon Valley Community Foundation were on hand to kick off the foundation with Rod. Following the announcement, Rod and twenty-five 6th and 7th grade students from Oakland’s Roots International Academy became crew members and took part in a simulated space mission. The value of teamwork was emphasized during the two-hour mission, which took place in a realistic mock-up of a futuristic spacecraft and mission control room. Projects during the mission included exploring Mars, launching a probe through the tail of a comet and returning to the moon. The success of their mission was dependent upon the work of all teams. Following the Mission, Rod and the students joined the commanders for a pizza lunch and a tour of the historic telescopes.
