Team Streater Travels to Wildwood to Experience the “Magic” of Camp Kesem
Wildwood in LaCyne, KS June 5, 2016
“Kesem Magic”! What was “Kesem Magic”? Rod Streater got to experience first-hand “Kesem Magic” when he visited this special camp for children who have a parent who has been impacted by cancer. Rod, having lost his mother to breast cancer in October 2014, knew that this was the perfect place to kick off Team Streater and offer some inspiring words of Hope and Courage. He asked the campers and the counselors to become a member of “Team Streater”, handed out t-shirts and personally autographed each one.
Rod chose his stage name, “Tacos”, as the Kesem Magic was starting to sprinkle over him. “Tacos” joined the Slytherins, one of four quadrants from Harry Potter, to play an intense game of “Kick the Can”. It was laughter, triumph, oops “forgot to defend the goal” moments, strategizing with teammates, running way too hard for a Sunday day off, kicked the can, and fun by all. Following Team Photos, everyone headed to the fire pit to make s’mores. Is there anything better than cooking marshmallows, with some of the most amazing kids ever, over an open fire?!! It’s called “Kesem Magic!” Camp Kesem is a nationwide community, driven by passionate college student leaders, that supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer. By offering innovative, funfilled programs that foster a lasting community, Kesem aims to ensure that every child affected by a parent’s cancer is never alone.
