Team Streater Invites Tim Grimes and Kendall Gammon to Help Offer Words of “Hope and Courage” to patients at Hope Lodge
Rod Streater knew that he had some very important business to take care of before departing for Training Camp. On July 26, he invited his new friends Tim Grimes and Kendall Gammon, to join him in visiting the patients and families at American Cancer Society’s “Hope Lodge”. While there, they handed out Team Streater t-shirts, signed autographs, took selfies, talked to “love ones” on the phone, and brought Chiefs iced sugar cookies for all. Rod especially enjoyed seeing Jo and Ron again whom he had met a couple of weeks earlier at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Rod is appreciative of Tim and Kendall’s ongoing efforts in their support of the American Cancer Society and Hope Lodge.
Hope Lodge was established in 2000, in an effort to ease the burden of cancer experienced by the patients. The American Cancer Society provides free housing to cancer patients traveling to Kansas City for treatment. Finding emotional and social support from other survivors can be as important as getting the proper medical care. At Hope Lodge, patients live with other patients going through similar experiences and are supported by caring staff and volunteers. The nurturing, comfortable environment provided to patients during their staff allows them to focus on what is most important – fighting cancer!
